Why I am decorating with lemons in November
I promise I will go back to all the Christmas decorations very soon. Actually already at the end of this post. I just need to get a few last summer vibes out before I surrender to the approaching Christmas month completely.
So I am one of those people who love the change of the seasons. Spring with all its light greens, the golden summer months with the darker greens and all the warm colours in the autumn. Then something happens in the autumn where suddenly nature is losing its colour. It is in the in-between season, between autumn and winter, where I miss the feeling of sand under my feet and warm sunshine on my skin. So I decided to grab some bright, turquoise paint and bring back the Mediterranean feeling for a while.
It was a bit of challenge I set myself. I bought a cute, little (although very beat up) side table at a red cross store for 35 Danish kroner, $5/€4/£4 . I actually went to buy another cute table but I should have known when you leave something you want at a thrift store it won’t be there when you get back. Classic mistake. Then I used some glue on one of the legs and sanded the top and sides. I know I really should get more into how to use wood filler, but I wanted a rustic look for this piece, so left a couple of the bigger marks. Sometimes the kinks and marks add more character to things anyway. Don’t you think? A few coats of paints later and it seemed completely transformed. I was quite excited about the colour because it is the first time I have painted with such a bright one. But I am happy with the result. The good thing with a side table this size is it can be used as a plant stand as well.
Then a before picture of the side table. Just to compare.
So this summer feeling made me think of those of you that live in a place where you have Christmas in the summer. I have always wondered what it would be like to have a Christmas beach party (and a good friend of mine sends me these amazing pictures from New Zealand) but for now I will stick with the frosty and cold Scandinavian Christmas with lots of burning candles. Just the way I like it. I am looking forward to December like a little child this year.
Hope you enjoyed my ‘summer party’. Let’s get back to the winter wonderland now and lots of hygge/coziness. I’ll go make myself some ginger tea and hang out on my sofa beneath a couple of blankets with a good book. Simply heaven. Enjoy your weekend everyone!
Oh, and wait a minute, if you want to keep some of the Mediterranean feel over Christmas I came across some lovely, pillows on etsy. Just remember to check if they ship to your country. (Not a sponsored post.)
